As the ride approaches we will be asking for some help with organizing and supporting the team tent. That may include bringing a box of supplies to the event, arriving early to help set up or coordinating some aspect of the weekend’s activities. Email me if you would like to help. Last year the traditional Friday team dinner was a potluck bar-b-que at the team tent. It seemed to be a hit, so we are considering having the Friday team dinner at the tent again this year. We will be considering having the main dishes catered to avoid having to haul grilles and food to the site, not to mention the cleanup afterward. We'd like to hear what people are interested in for this year this year, Friday dinner at the tent, or meet at a restaurant? If we have dinner at the tent, have it D.I.Y. or cater the major portions (Bandannas?) and have potluck for side dishes? Email me with your opinions and Ideas. If you are planning to stay in a hotel now is a good time to make a reservation. We'll also have a Camp Christner compound at the site.

This year’s weekend weather has not been supportive of our traditional Saturday rides from Windsor Crossing Church. We are working on correcting that problem. We will start our July rides at 7:30 AM. On July 30, we will have our Last Saturday of the Month ride from the Hub. We’ve been thinking that some riders may feel that they need to be a fast to participate in the Windsor rides. True, there are riders that like a fast pace, but there are many on the team who also enjoy a more relaxed rate. This Saturday we’d like to see a wider variety of riders join us. Therefore, this Saturday, July 2 will be Team Christner "Get out to Windsor" Day. What does that mean? First, if you haven’t ridden from Windsor Crossing before we’re encouraging you to come out and give it a try. Yes, there are some awesome hills, but with the support of your fellow riders, they can be conquered. Furthermore, hill training will make the MS 150 ride route a piece of cake (the “that that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” theory). Second, we’re going to try to get folks organized by ability and into groups. That way we can have a better chance at achieving a "no-drop" ride format and helping riders find partners for the MS ride itself. Third, if you are worried about getting lost, we will have maps, trade cell numbers and have breadcrumbs to drop along the route. The general idea is to ride from Windsor to the Pavilion at Greensfelder Park. We will try to break up by expected pace and regroup at the pavilion to plan additional riding for the day. Some will probably elect to return to Windsor, others may head to Route 66 State Park, Fox creek or Hunter's Ford. The goal is to get more team members out and help people get to know each other and work together.

The Tour de Christner will be a 30+ mile ride from Forest Park west to Maryville University highlighting many of Christner Incorporated's projects along the central corridor. A shorter route was originally planned, but has been canceled as the route conflicted with the Tour de Grove.
The ride will begin at 9:00 AM at the Jewell Box. Team members should have received an online invitation. If you are not a member of Team Christner and would like to join us feel free to do so. Contact Bryan Sechrist at bryan.sechrist@christnerinc.com for more information. |

Dear Friends and Family of Barbara Kure Klein
Saturday, May 7 is the 58h anniversary of Barbara’s birth. To commemorate this we are planning a bicycle ride on a route she loved, Creve Coeur Lake to St. Charles and back. We did this ride with friends on Friday evenings as a great way to wind down after a week of work. We also enjoyed a dinner at local restaurant as part of the tradition. To help provide lasting memorial to Barbara, I have established two memorial funds, one at the University of Wisconsin Foundation and another at Chaminade College Preparatory School. Barbara was a founding member of the St. Louis Chapter of the University of Wisconsin Women’s Philanthropy Council and our son Matthew is a junior at Chaminade. If you would like to contribute to either fund, please send me a check payable to The University of Wisconsin Foundation or Chaminade College Preparatory School. I will match your contribution dollar for dollar. This ride and another in early November are annual events to honor a life well lived.
Contributions are tax deductible and can be sent to:
Drew Klein
12917 Topping Estates
St Louis, MO 63131-1302.
The bike ride will leave from the soccer fields at Creve Coeur Lake promptly at 6 PM.
Please don’t feel obligated to contribute. I hope to see you at the ride on May 6. |

On April 1, we had a happy hour hosted at the office of Christner Inc. wrapping up the 2010 event and kicking off the 2011 season. We want to thank our co-sponsor, the Hub Bicycle Company, for providing two generous gift certificates and several water bottles to give away as door prizes. Our MS representative, Erin Holtzclaw was able to stop by and offered discount registration for the 2011 event for everyone present. We also gave certificates of achievement to riders who completed their first century ride and back-to-back centuries. We also honored our top rookie rider, Tom Osborne, top fundraiser Todd Dillon and awarded the Team Spirit Award to former team captain Allan Gober.
Thanks to Amy Angel, Meg and John Walters, Kelly and Chris Duepner, Robin Ringwald, Denise Buehrer and David Coleman for their help in planning the event.

Dear Friends: Let's plan on a ride to commemorate Barbara's last rid with us in November of 2008. As weather can be an issue let's choose he better of 11/6 or 11/7 this year. As last year we'll leave from Route 66 State park, but remember because the bridge is closed, we'll meet in the first parking lot past the Meramec River.
I'll set the date by November 3rd!
Hope to see you all there and if you care to donate to Barbara's memorial funds see the following:
I have set up two memorial funds for Barbara, one at the University of Wisconsin in the amount of $10,000 to help fund the Foundations effort to encourage Women's Philanthropy. As you may recall, Barbara was a charter member of the St Louis chapter. I've also established a $5000 scholarship in her name at Chaminade College Prep. I plan on two fund raisers per year revolving around Barbara's love of bicycling. One ride will be the first weekend in November to commemorate her last ride with us and the second will be the first week of May to celebrate her birthday. If you would like to participate, I will match donations dollar for dollar. Please don't feel obligated and any amount would be welcome. W already have a good start on the 10 year plan for UW and 5-year plan fro Chaminade. Checks can be made out directly to the UW Foundation or Chaminade College Prep and I can forward them with the match.
Thanks so much!
Drew

Camp Christner
If you plan to camp at the fairgrounds there is an Event on the team Facebook page that you can RSVP to. Allan, Bryan and others arriving when the gates open will try their best to claim enough space for Team Christner riders to pitch their tents. If you are not on Facebook email Allan or Bryan so we have a general headcount.
!UPDATED! Friday Dinner/Picnic
In lieu of meeting at a restaurant we will be having a team picnic at the tent Friday night. Our team captain and chef Allan Gober will be preparing a delightful selection of grilled free range organic chicken with a side dish of either penne or spaghetti with a fresh marinara sauce. The grille will be available for anyone who wishes to cook something else. Everyone is welcome to bring an additional side dish or dessert (sadly Allan cannot fit the gelato machine into his car).
Once again Paul Murphy and John Walters have prepared some excellent home brews for the weekend. Thanks Paul and John.
Ride Packets
Most ride packets have been picked up. Packets will be available at the team tent Friday evening during the team Dinner/Picnic. Packets not picked up by Friday evening it will be returned to the MS 150 Registration Tent. If you haven't picked up your packet and will not be at the event until Saturday morning, contact Allan to make special arrangements.
Snacks
As usual please bring snacks to share at the tent. Chips, pretzels etc are always popular. Baked goods such as cookies (Tim? Pecan Sugar Cookies?) and brownies are always popular. Hungry bicyclists NEED baked goods.
!UPDATED! We will have sign up sheets so riders can note what distances they plan to ride each day. That we we know when and where to send the search and rescue teams.
!UPDATED! Team Photo
The official MS 150 team photo will be taken at 7:00 AM in the Team Photo Area (check the site map in your packet, we haven't yet). We will try to be on the road by 7:30 AM

We will start our last training ride from our co-sponsor, The Hub BIcycle Company's shop in Webster Groves at 7:30 AM. We will ride their standard 30 mile route. Following that ride we'll have maps for our city route of anyone wants to add some miles. The route can be modified to end at Francis Park for the second stop of the Gatway cup races.
Prior to the ride we will be taking our traditional team photo in front of the Hub, so plan to arrive a bit early.
Also if you haven't picked up your ride packet, we will have them on Hand Saturday morning.
On Sunday many on the team plan to participate in the annual Trailnet Giro della Montagna, a prelude to the Gateway Cup race in the Hill. The Giro starts at 7:30 AM features three routes of varied distance around the city. Its a great ride and a lot of fun to hang around for the Gateway Cup races afterward. |
